Vauxhall Meriva 1.7CDTi Review
The Vauxhall Meriva is a small people carrier that's a cheaper alternative to the likes of the Nissan Note with a practical interior and plenty of space. Its compact size makes it easy to manoeuvre around town and the tall shape means there's good headroom. It's comfortable to drive though. The range was given a light facelift in 2006 (look for the newly added chrome strip across the rear tailgate to identify a facelifted car).
The Meriva borrows its engines from the Astra and Corsa.
Initially the only diesel was the 1.7 CDTi with 100bhp which is quiet enough on the move, however a smaller 1.3 CDTi was introduced in 2006 and this offers stronger performance than it's modest 75bhp output suggests. It feels eager on the road and can average an impressive 57mpg. All cars come with a five-speed manual gearbox..
