Fiat Multipla Eleganza 1.9 JTD(Diesel Estate) Review

The original Multipla's unusual appearance meant that most people were put off - which is a shame as the Italian people carrier comes with a hugely practical and spacious interior, complete with three full-sized rear seats. Strong points with the Multipla include the 1.9-litre diesel engine, which is very good and the Multipla is capable of carrying six people plus luggage - a feat seven-seat alternatives often struggle to achieve.

The Multipla has been offered with a 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine since launch. This car has evolved from 105bhp when it was launched to 110bhp in late 2000, to 115bhp in 2002, and 120bhp in 2006. The diesel would be the preferred choice whatever its power output with its better mid-range response. Acceleration and all round performance is more effortless in the diesel. The short gear lever is mounted on the dashboard and is within easy reach while the shifts themselves are quite slick.
